A Body of Many

Drawing from her experience of growing up between Dutch and Japanese cultures, the ceramic sculpture explores how identity and culture are shaped by perspective. Existing somewhere between body and architecture, the sculpture embodies both the individual and the collective. Within its abstract form, different faces and emotions emerge depending on the viewer’s perspective, each revealing another aspect of the same whole. The work challenges the idea that identity or culture can be understood through a single perspective, embracing instead the multiplicity and contradictions that coexist within both.
